Sophie is a PhD student in the Cell Biology and Physiology Program and joined the Cohen lab in 2026. Sophie graduated from Colorado State University in Spring 2025 with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Microbiology and Infectious Disease. There, her primary research was in the lab of Dr. Gregg Dean, where she studied vaccine development in the context of mucosal immunology. In addition, she studied decay of viral RNAs in the lab of Dr. Brian Geiss. She plans to study neurodegeneration and how environmental toxicants such as pesticides can induce protein modification and aggregation in zebrafish. Outside of the lab, Sophie enjoys spending time with her twin, solving sudoku puzzles, and playing volleyball.
